Customer Rating :
Rating: 3.0

Product Description

The "L" Series Dutch Oven is not only excellent for cooking, it is also the ideal vessel to serve meals in. Complimenting the stylish porcelain finish is the graceful "L" shaped stainless steel handle on the lid, providing a generous grip and perfect balance when handling while cooking or when cleaning. It can be used on all stove tops and in ovens, including induction, at temperatures below 500 degrees F. Not to be used in the microwave or on outdoor grills / campfires. Where the lid and pot meet, the visible black edge is a matte enamel undercoat more chip resistant than the primary colors. The white enamel cooking surface is FDA approved. Porcelain enamel eliminates the need to "season" cast iron, creating a non reactive surface perfect for all cooking techniques, as well as marinating, refrigerating or freezing. The corrosion resistant No. 304 stainless steel handle remain cool-touch while cooking on stovetop at moderate heat. 4 Qt, patriot red

5.0 out of 5 stars My Favorite Pot!, November 4, 2012
This review is from: Lodge L Series Dutch Oven, Patriot Red, 4-Quart (Kitchen)
Anytime I get any new kitchen equipment, tools, etc., I read the care instructions. Advertisement should not need to list what is common sense. That being said, I did read the instructions and have had this pot for over a year now and it is my favorite go to pot for soups, stews and roasting. The heat retention is great and cooking soups in an enamel cast iron pot enhances the flavor of your dish, especially if your ingredients include any that are reactive to traditional stainless steel pots. The care instructions are simple easy to follow and Lodge, as always made an exceptional product! To give a product one star because of a user error is silly.

Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
This review is from: Lodge L Series Dutch Oven, Patriot Red, 4-Quart (Kitchen)
Buyer Beware! Even though the advertising specifies pot can be heated to 500 degrees, it does not go far enough. What it needs to say is "do not heat the pot empty!!" Mine had a small explosion - a fifty cent piece size in the middle of the pot burst and the glass enamelwas in shards when heated to 450 degrees in preparation of adding dough to make a Pot Boule (a round cottage loaf). Despite bread recipes calling for this process, preferably in a heavy, enameled dutch oven, I found out the hard way and at a loss of $100 (cost of pot and shipping), that it is not safe to do this. I called the manufacturer after Amazon would not accept a return, and they said they have written in the instruction book not to heat the pot empty. I wish this had been specified in the advertising; I would not have bought the pot, since this is precisely what I needed and bought it for and receiving the instructions with the pot would have been to late even if I had read them.
